Mission Statement

MISSION:
The Mission of Women's Health (Boulder Valley Women's Health Center) is to provide accessible, confidential and comprehensive gynecological and reproductive healthcare, including sexual health services and education.

Organization History

As an independent, non-profit family planning clinic and the only Title X agency in Boulder County, Women's Health provides "safety net" reproductive health services to individuals who are most in need. The majority of our patients are low-income, underinsured or uninsured making them vulnerable to the consequences of forgoing necessary preventative health care. Founded in 1973, Women's Health began as Colorado's first abortion provider but soon expanded services to include low cost birth control and affordable gynecological care. For over forty years Women's Health has been working to prevent unplanned pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, and cervical cancers through preventive healthcare and screenings.

Our specialized Youth Services programs, established in 1995, offer educational and clinical services to teens. Preventing unplanned pregnancy and exposure to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among adolescents increases their chances of completing high school and pursuing higher education or entering the workforce.

In response to overwhelming health care disparities faced by many in the Latinx community, Women's Health created the Latinx Services Program. Since 1997 our bilingual, bicultural staff has developed relevant, culturally appropriate outreach, education and translation strategies to meet the needs of Latinxs. At the request of our Longmont constituents, Women's Health expanded geographically to serve teens there by opening a satellite Longmont Teen Clinic in 2006. In 2010 we expanded hours at our Longmont site and now offer services for adults there too. In 2007 Women's Health developed the Contraceptive Continuity Initiative (CCI), providing women and teens with information and access to long-term, reversible methods of contraception at low or no cost. This groundbreaking program has paved the way for more Title X clinics to offer highly effective, "forgettable" methods to their patients.

Testimonials

"Dear INCREDIBLE staff at Boulder Valley Women's Health Center,
I want to say thank you for your AMAZING support and service when I came in for a procedure last week. It could have been a very overwhelming and scary process, but your staff put me at ease as soon as I arrived and made me feel like I wasn't alone. From the kind receptionist to the counselors and the nurses to the doctor to the volunteers in the recovery room- everyone had a calming sense about them that made this situation bearable. I can't thank or commend your practice enough for the unbelievable professionalism and patience each member of your staff demonstrated. I would not hesitate to highly recommend you to all women in Colorado. Thank you for everything!
Warmly,
An ever-grateful patient" Thank you card from a WH patient, recieved in December 2016

"To all the AMAZING staff at BVWHC,
As I sat down to write my graduation thank you cards, I was thinking about the people who have impacted my life. Of course, all of you popped into my head first. The work you all do has inspired me to stand up for what I think is important and treat every person with love and kindess. All of you have given me the voice I needed, and I am endlessly greatful. If one day I have the opportunity to impact someone's life the way you have impacted mine, I will know I lived my life to the fullest. Thanks again for all you do and helping me find my passion for sexual health. I know it is going to take me far.
Love you all!
-Forever SHAPEr, Ali"

"Since I moved to Boulder I've been getting all my reproductive health care here. The first time was shocking because, compared to how I have been treated as a patient in the past in various places in Denver, I felt like this place was staffed entirely by angels. The all-female staff is comprised of individuals who are nice, caring and competent. The facilities are beautiful and relaxing. I always feel like these people will take great care of me and be on my side. Thank you for your kind and compassionate service!"

"This place changed my life! I identify as a FTM Trans* person, and I started my hormone therapy at Boulder Valley Women's Health. The process was simple, the environment was affirming, and most of the information you'll need to become a trans* patient is all laid out on a specific page on their website. I recommend this place to any trans* identified person seeking a positive and safe environment to either start or continue there transition experience. This isn't exclusively a women's health care center only... this place includes and affirms all aspects of reproductive health care for all people, and I highly recommend it!"
