Mission Statement

The mission of Bicycle Colorado is to encourage and promote bicycling, increase safety, improve conditions and provide a voice for cyclists in Colorado.

Organization History

Bicycle Colorado has worked for 26 years to improve bicycling across the state for anyone who rides. We teach children and adults how to ride at our bike school, students learn to love riding through our MY Denver Bikes program, safety is emphasized through our Safe Routes to School programs across the state and the policies we help implement with policy makers allow us to share the ride with countless Coloradans. Colorado is ranked among the top states in the entire nation for bicycling, and we've played a large part in that. Help us do more by making a gift today.

Organization's history:

Founded in 1992, Bicycle Colorado began promoting bicycle tourism. As bicycling grew in Colorado--it currently generates more than $1.6 billion of economic impact annually--Bicycle Colorado's role grew to include education, improving laws to increase safety, addressing state policies to increase the number of safe places to ride, designing and constructing sustainable mountain bike trails and developing a liaison program with the Colorado State Patrol.

Bicycle Colorado is the largest state-focused bicycle advocacy nonprofit in the U.S. We have nearly 10,000 individual members in a state with 1.5 million bicyclists. Bicycle Colorado has become a national leader in bicycle advocacy through our membership strength and ability to work with government agencies, politicians and businesses.

What we do:

- We work to create new laws that improve safety and education for children and adults who bicycle.
- We work with state agencies to accelerate the rate of construction of safe bicycle facilities.
- We work to educate children in Colorado schools, covering bicycle skills, safety and rules of the road while helping communities identify safe routes for walking and bicycling to school
- We design and build sustainable mountain bike trails
- We work with law enforcement to increase safety on Colorado roads for people who bicycle.

Testimonials

"I love and support Bicycle Colorado because they walk the walk. They strive to get us all on bikes and to make it safe and feasible for us to do so. I am one less car on the road when I ride. Bicycle Colorado continually renews my enthusiasm to be an advocate for riding bikes!"
- Kati Olivaras

"My family and I have been longtime supporters of Bicycle Colorado because of its commitment to everything related to cycling in our bike-crazed state. My husband and I also have a 4-year-old that rides all over our local trails and roads. We have a huge appreciation for what BC does not only for my family and friends, but everyone that rides a bike in Colorado."
- Alex, Greg and Emmett Frozley

"Just thinking about bicycling makes me smile. Supporting Bicycle Colorado makes me proud - like I've personally made an improvement in building a more bicycle-friendly Colorado."
- Janet Slate

"I believe strongly that if more people ride bikes in comfort, many will adopt them as active transportation. I support Bicycle Colorado because they are dedicated to providing safe routes to school for our children and safe, convenient routes to work and exercise for adults through their work with our state and local governments."
- Andy Pruitt

"Bicycle Colorado stands for all the things an avid cyclist like me wants to see in a bicycle friendly community: Safe Routes to School, 3 Feet to Pass and protected bike lanes. That's why I am a proud member and volunteer."
- John Barringer
