Pet overpopulation is still a major issue in underserved parts of Colorado. Your generous contribution on Colorado Gives Day (Tuesday, Dec. 7), will make a positive difference in communities lacking high quality veterinary resources, keeping families and their pets together and healthy!

Testimonials

After a feral cat clinic, one community member said: "What a great event! You all just prevented at least 540 kittens being born - impressive- Congrats!"

Jenna told us recently that "We had our female dogs spayed by Bergen Spay and Neuter Alliance and they did such an amazing job!!! Very small incisions that healed right up. We absolutely recommend them. Thank you for all you do!"-

After a clinic in Delta, a volunteer commented: "The folks in the Delta area are ROCK STARS!!! Some come from many miles away to volunteer and take care of the rest of us and all the critters! I'm so glad to be helping with this project!"

"What a service to our community. Hopefully we will see less and less of a need with all your efforts. You guys rock!"

Mission

Bergen Spay & Neuter Alliance is on a mission to make spay & neuter affordable and accessible to everyone.

Background Statement

Bergen Spay and Neuter Alliance (Bergen) was formed in 2019 by Kristin Des Marais who has been active in animal welfare since 1997. In 2019, Kristin recognized the unmet need for high quality spay and neuter, vaccine and microchip services in rural communities within Colorado. Bergen Spay & Neuter Alliance promotes collaboration amongst animal welfare organizations, veterinary care providers and local governments thereby increasing access to these services in high-need areas. Since 2019, Bergen Spay & Neuter Alliance has provided resources to over 10,000 pets and their families in 21 Colorado communities.

These families, like most, understand the deep relationship between their pets and human companions. We think about the stories our clients tell us about their pets and you know what? They're pretty much all the same! Their dogs and cats are an integral part of their families. They tell us about the walks, the hugs, the snuggles, the runs, the fetching and the games. But mostly, they tell us how much the emotional bond means. That's how our pets became a part of our families. We love them. We care for them. They make our hearts full and ultimately, they break our hearts. Only family can do that.

Bergen Spay & Neuter Alliance is named in memory of Wendy Bergen, who passed away in 2017 from a brain aneurysm. Wendy was a dedicated supporter of spay and neuter.
