The Benjamin A. Getchell Music Scholarship is an annually awarded Scholarship to honor students of The Shining Mountain Waldorf School music program with funds to strengthen and enhance the individual practice of the student. Recipients of this award display a passion and connection to music that is displayed through their playing and practice of their instrument.
This scholarship was established to honor the memory of an exceptional student and alumni of Shining Mountain Waldorf School. Ben was an accomplished and talented violinist and lover of music.
Benjamin Getchell's love of violin and music:
In third grade when Benjamin was choosing an instrument, he was adamant he had to play the violin, not the cello as his teachers were determining would be a better fit for his temperament. He picked up his first quarter size violin and started playing like he was being reunited with it from a previous life. He was drawn to play it daily to strengthen his ability to walk on the earth connected to his higher nature.
Ben had a deep understanding of the real power and beauty of music. Although he wasn't technically the best violinist, but he was keenly aware of the connection that playing the violin gave him to his Soul and to the higher realms. He was passionate about it in a way that's hard to describe. It wasn't just the discipline of practicing to progress his skill level but an aching if he didn't play. Ben played his violin daily from third grade through his sophomore year in college. - Katerina Getchell, Benjamin's mother
