About BTS and our Fundraising Goal

BTS provides substance abuse and mental health counseling to criminal justice involved individuals. BTS provides a necessary community service to a niche population found in multiple Colorado communities. Oftentimes, our clients are struggling to meet their basic needs. Many of our clients need help paying for clothes, food, or shelter while also paying for treatment, court fees, or other required costs. Our goal for Colorado Gives Day 2023 is to raise $7,500 for our client scholarship fund. The BTS client scholarship fund helps make treatment more affordable for clients. The client scholarship fund supports the BTS mission by making treatment more accessible. Founded in 2018, this incredible program has helped reduce financial burden for nearly 30 clients.

Testimonials

"I’ve spent years in court mandated therapy and I’ve never received the type of genuine care and therapy like I did with [BTS]. I received a scholarship when my life was particularly trying. I was juggling my recovery, my court, therapy responsibilities, was homeless, and working full time. The scholarship offered me relief and support I needed financially to find housing. For that, I’m forever grateful." -Jaymes

"The benefits have not only been experienced by me, but also by my family. I think other people would benefit from also having a calm state of mind. Thanks for the help, life will compensate your good heart." -  Mr. Melendez

"When I was first sentenced, I was a nihilistic and drug addicted. I had zero hope after betraying and disappointing my loved ones for over a decade. Now, I can proudly say that I’m happy, healthy, and a loving father." - Former BTS Scholarship recipient

"I thank BTS because I didn't expect them to help me that much. I was very surprised, and that help made it easier focus on paying the court. It also helped me in being able to support my grandson [financially]. I wish you the best of luck and may God bless you so that you can help more people." - Former BTS Scholarship recipient

Mission

Providing accessible, integrated, and inclusive behavioral health services supporting clients throughout the criminal justice system.

Background Statement

BTS was founded in 2014 and specializes in providing treatment services for the criminal justice population in Colorado. BTS is a non-profit 501c3 organization and our mission is to provide accessible, integrate, and inclusive behavioral health services supporting clients throughout the criminal justice system.

Over the past 8-years, BTS has grown in its workforce and services. We primarily employ Master's-level therapists that can provide mental health and substance abuse treatment across the continuum of service delivery, but over the recent years have grown to include clinical case managers, peer support specialists, milieu coordinators, and Certified Addiction Specialists.

We provide services in a wide-range of continuum from outpatient, to residential, to court-based, to jail-based, and many other services in-between. BTS holds a variety of specialized contracts with judicial districts - such as the Bridges Program in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 11th, and 17th districts, which is designed to bridge the gap between the criminal justice system and mental health services for those involved in the competency process.

In 2018, BTS also took over the STIRT (Strategic Individualized Remediation Treatment) program when Arapahoe House closed, which is a 21-day inpatient substance use program with up to 9-month of aftercare services. We are located in 3 outpatient offices (Boulder, Longmont, and Golden) that specialize in DUI 4+ and other Medicaid covered outpatient services. Many of our outpatient clinicians specialize in working with the problem solving courts.

Lastly, for over a decade, BTS has been a part of the Jail-Based Behavioral Health Services (JBBS) state-funded program in Boulder and Jefferson County Jails. Our clinicians and case managers collaborate to provide voluntary treatment to clients from incarceration through their re-entry. BTS prides itself in working nearly 100% with only justice-involved clients in Colorado, which is more often times not a prioritized treatment population for larger community mental health agencies.
