Across Boulder County, there are hundreds of adults experiencing chronic homelessness. The Shelter has a dynamic team that works to develop creative, meaningful solutions for our most vulnerable community members.

The Shelter is fully committed to its two-tier approach. We are here, night after night after night, for 25 straight years, offering emergency shelter to folks who face a crisis right now, and we search with our clients for the intervention they need to find them a home so they can begin their journey to recovery. Through our shelter, outreach, counseling, case management, and our ever expanding housing programs, we strive to meet the crisis and find a solution – a home.

The Boulder Shelter for the Homeless is where remarkable compassion intersects with innovation and expertise to get results. Please join us in this fight and be a critical part of the results our clients deserve and the results our community can be proud of.

Mission

The mission of the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless is to create avenues to stable housing for our community's homeless adults, from a foundation of supportive and safe shelter.

Background Statement

Homelessness is a critical issue in Boulder County, blighting the lives of people who have no stable place to live and straining the resources of the community at large.

The Boulder Shelter for the Homeless is the largest provider of homeless services in Boulder County. For 40 years, we have provided some of our community’s most vulnerable residents a place to be safe and off “survival mode.” Our current 160-bed facility opened in 2003, and it includes sleeping quarters for men, women, and nonbinary clients; a kitchen and dining area; and dedicated space for case managers to meet with clients. We have also provided Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) – in scattered sites and buildings we own – for 140 people who have been chronically homeless.

We believe that stable housing is an absolute requirement for people to reach their full potential. Since October 2017, the Shelter has been prioritizing housing exits for all clients who engage in our services, either through Housing-Focused Shelter, Permanent Supportive Housing, or other programs. The Shelter believes that everyone is housing ready, and we work diligently across the continuum of need to provide appropriate support services in effort to see individuals transition from homelessness into housing and to maintain housing once it is acquired. We are proud that during the past year we arranged for exits from homelessness for 203 people – either into their own stable housing, or through a program that linked them up with a family member or other suitable housing opportunity. We are also proud that, through collaboration with our partners, we will be providing an additional 110 PSH units during 2024.
