Mission

The mission of The Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado (BCOC) is to inspire and engage audiences through creative and collaborative live performances of Baroque music, and to enhance our community and enrich lives through artistic excellence, changing the way we experience the world.

Background Statement

The Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado (BCOC) was founded in 2005 by Artistic Director Frank Nowell. The orchestra was founded based on the belief that music from the Baroque era (1600 -1760) speaks powerfully to our time. BCOC's founding filled a gap in the Colorado arts scene and brought Denver an independent, professional orchestra specializing in the Baroque repertory.

With the invaluable contributions of ensemble leader, Cytnthia Miller Freivogel, the group has issued two recordings on CD, Cornucopia and Forte e Dolce, and has performed such major Baroque masterpieces as Handel's Water Music, Vivaldi's Violin Concertos and The Four Seasons, John Blow's Venus and Adonis, Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Jean Gilles Requiem for a King, and J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos and St. Matthew Passion.
