Testimonials

Aurora Warms the Night (AWTN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to preserve the life, health and stability of Aurora's men, women, and children facing homelessness through shelter and comprehensive services. Located in Original Aurora near the Colfax corridor, AWTN provides shelter and comprehensive services for those experiencing homelessness. Our EIN is 27-4728487 and donations are tax-deductible.

AWTN shelters those experiencing homelessness in the winter when temperatures reach 20 degrees or colder. Year round services include meals, warm clothing, hygiene items, transportation to shelter, laundry vouchers, bus passes, partner agency referrals, and advocacy. We operate these services in order to ensure families and individuals meet their most basic needs, learn new skills, and access resources to transition out of homelessness.

By partnering with providers, we are helping to break the cycle of homelessness through comprehensive services. Our partner provider services are located onsite in our building and include mental health services, health care clinics, workforce education for clients including resume writing, interviewing skills, job coaching assistance, food assistance (SNAPS), SSI, and SSDI application assistance; and veterans' services.

AWTN provides education to the community regarding homelessness, including presentations to schools, faith-based community, corporations, and community organizations.

AWTN has consistently been ranked a top non-profit by GreatNonprofits, whose seal is trusted second to the Better Business Bureau. AWTN is a member of Aurora Chamber of Commerce. Ranking the highest status of Platinum on GuideStar, an independent charity ranking organization, and partnering with local and state government, AWTN has proven its self a trustworthy charity.

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. Did you know that loss of job, family death/divorce, and illness are the most common causes of homelessness? More than half the people experiencing homelessness in Aurora are families with children.

There is something special that happens with our supporters and our clients. They become connected through the stories that brought them to the same place, Aurora Warms the Night. A meal packet, a sponsorship for night of shelter, an article of warm clothing. Every item had story connected with YOU and what inspired you to help. Now there is story connected with WHO YOU HELPED and the IMPACT you provided. It became a story that saved or changed a life.

Our clients often ask, "Do you know the person who gave (the item they are receiving)?" Our clients ask because they want to tell you thank you. And so do I. Thank you for being the kind of person who gives to important causes.

Our community has demonstrated that we are filled with people like you. Someone who not only cares, but cares enough to take action. Across our community, through churches, local leaders, our Mayor, firefighters, Broncos players, fundraisers, memorial events, and the inspiring family who chose to give gifts to our clients instead of their family at Christmas, YOU have bridged a need with an action of assistance.

We are celebrating our 10th Year Anniversary at Aurora Warms the Night in 2016.

This has been our most remarkable year at AWTN since we were founded in 2006. We achieved our strongest year in revenue, grants, events, fundraising, in-kind donations, and nearly doubled the number of clients served for shelter and basic needs programs. As we start our next fiscal year, Aurora Warms the Night is poised for continued growth.

Your support of our efforts has also translated into action from the City of Aurora and the State of Colorado accepting my drafted Proclamations of Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week as official proclamations on city and statewide levels. And on Memorial Day, Governor Hickenlooper honored my request to fly flags in honor of ALL agencies supporting homeless assistance initiative and the clients we serve. We know partnerships are essential in working towards collaborative effective solutions for our community.

AWTN has consistently been ranked a top non-profit by GreatNonprofits, whose seal is trusted second to the Better Business Bureau and achieved the highest status of Platinum on GuideStar, an independent charity ranking organization evaluating AWTN as a trustworthy charity.

You have given generously, strategically and compassionately, therefore allowing us to do the same with our services for our clients. Thank you.

Warmly with gratitude,
Brian Arnold

"AWTN is a huge asset to our homeless participants. When someone is street homeless they are not only at risk of freezing to death, but they also have huge safety concerns, issues with personal care.

One participant told me, an opportunity to get a shower and wash his clothes "…just makes me feel more human." Another participant stated being able to take multiple showers and an opportunity to relax, have a break form "survival mode" helped decrease his depression and increased his motivation to accomplish goals such as applying and interviewing for jobs. Another participant stated it reminded her of what it was like to be housed and what she was working towards.

A motel room provides a level safety many street homeless are denied on a daily basis. One participant reported that he wakes up about once an hour on the streets because he is worried about safety, in the motel he is able to sleep as much as 6 hours straight. Another participant reported that she is "so relieved to have a lock to lock me in" and spoke at length about the value of locks for her safety.

I have seen huge differences in people's motivation toward goals, decrease in mental health symptoms and an overall heightened mood in those who look forward to getting vouchers and those who have been housed for a night or more.

Aurora Warms the Night's ability to assist in meeting the needs of safety, privacy and basic personal care needs for individuals increases PATH's ability to meet the mental health and case management needs of our participants. Shelter vouchers are an important part of our participant's mental health, well-being and ultimately their recovery."
