Mission Statement

The Aurora Museum Foundation's mission is to provide broad-based funding and community support to ensure the continued viability of the Aurora History Museum. The mission of the History Museum is:

The Aurora History Museum shall be a professionally operated and managed institution dedicated to the historical and cultural enrichment of the community by encouraging the exploration and appreciation of Aurora's rich history. The Museum will fulfill this mission by collecting, interpreting, preserving, exhibiting, and making available for study historically significant documents, artifacts, and art representative of Aurora, its environs, cultures and people, both past and present.

Organization History

The Aurora Museum Foundation was incorporated on November 27, 1989, as a private nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization by a group of supporters of the Aurora History Museum. Their first task was to assist the Museum to grow as it moved to it's present location.

The continued purpose of the Foundation is to provide broad-based funding and community support to ensure the continued viability of the Aurora History Museum. Some accomplishments include:
--Sponsored a jubilee ball to celebrate Aurora's Centennial in 1991
--Solicited recipes and remembrances for the Aurora Centennial Cookbook
--Sponsored "Homestead City," a living history representation of a typical pioneer Front Range town depicting life one hundred years ago
--Operate a Museum Store, profits of which benefit the Museum
--Sponsor bi-annual Antique Appraisal Fairs
--Support city events such as 4th of July
--Assist in the restoration and storage of the Trolley Trailer No. 610
--Sponsor special presentations, exhibits, and programs at the Museum


Aurora History Museum Receives Top Local Ranking--First place out of 35 nominees in the Best Museum rankings on Denver 7's A-list for 2010. Outranked Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver Art Museum and Museum of Nature and Science.
