Mission Statement

The Arc of Larimer County promotes and protects the civil rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through individual and systems advocacy and education fostering an inclusive community that embraces people throughout their lifetime to be included in every aspect of community life.

Organization History

The Arc of Larimer County was founded in 2007 by a small group of parents, self-advocates, and professionals, who wanted to ensure that all individuals with developmental disabilities have opportunities and choices for inclusion and involvement in their all aspects of their lives.

We are committed to advocating on behalf of individuals and at local, state and federal levels to ensure that all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the same opportunities for a safe, healthy, and meaningful life as everyone else. We serve as a catalyst for change by providing Larimer County timely and relevant information and resources and by supporting individuals in reaching their full potential.

• Our vision is that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are supported by their community to:
• Be included in every aspect of community life as valued, contributing, successful, and equal members of society
• To make their own life choices and their voices will be heard and respected
• To have full access to employment, supported inclusive education, community wide social and recreational activities, religious or spiritual community involvement and community living.

We believe that paid community employment is key to social, economic, and psychological equity, for everyone, including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our goal is for Larimer County to have the highest rate of inclusive paid employment in Colorado not including subminimum wage employment.

"Our son has a 'hidden' neurological disorder and when we were looking for help with his 504 plan through the school district when I discovered the Arc of Larimer County through the internet. Advocates helped us maneuver through the process and attended all our meetings. Their support and guidance are an invaluable resource for our community. We are fortunate to have the Arc of Larimer County, which provides advocacy to anyone that needs it. I cannot say enough good things about the Arc."
- Kort Duce, father, Fort Collins, CO

"My husband and I attended two workshops, which the Arc organized, one on Guardianship and one on Wills, Trusts, and SSI. I highly recommend these workshops since they gave us the information to begin creating a safety net for the continued care of our special needs son. With the help of the professionals, and their very specific knowledge, we now have a roadmap on how to best build this safety net. Thank you for all the information and help! "
-Susan Riphahn

"Thank you all for your wonderful support in helping my son and me get through this legal crisis! I can't imagine facing it without your support! Your presence and your pertinent statements testified well to the fine services you offer in trying to help people like my son achieve his maximum potential."
- Fort Collins Parent

"You were incredibly helpful with providing me information about policies and procedures as well as educating me on my daughter's rights. Along with this, you took time to be there and were flexible with our schedules and meetings to make sure you could attend for support. It was a huge relief for me to finally feel like "the battle" was not just mine to fight to make sure my daughter was treated fairly and got the help she needed and deserved. I appreciate all that you did and will never forget it!"
