Testimonials

A Heartfelt Thanks from an Angel Mom: "My boys didn’t walk for the entire hour. Instead, they skipped and jumped and squealed in joy. I had an ear-to-ear grin on my face. I was watching them swing, climb, balance, run and fall as they completed the obstacle course. Their first 'ninja' class. Michael and Thomas, both 7 years old, were on cloud nine, sweating buckets and belly laughing the entire time. What joy filled my heart. This is all I want for my children – as any mother does – for them to be happy again, confident again, and resilient.

"Only two years earlier, my husband unexpectedly died. My children were traumatized, confused and longing for their daddy. I have been working so hard to comfort them; to provide stability and reassurances that we will be okay. But, sometimes I feel I’m falling short as I grapple with my own trauma and grief. I find it hard to be a suddenly single supermom, though I want to be with all my heart.

"In stepped Angels of America’s Fallen. Their goal is to support our fallen military and first responder children all the way through age 18 in extracurricular activities to help build up their resilience and reestablish their confidence. My children and I are so thankful there are so many good people who are there to help heal our children. Not only are my boys provided with a wonderful new experience, but it also has given me the impetus to keep moving forward and continue to help them pursue new activities and interests in order to create new memories so we all can heal.

"My boys chose to train to be 'ninjas.' Angels of America’s Fallen gladly supported their desire. And, they are having a ball. It probably is the first time I have smiled in two years. We are rebuilding our lives. The children are in a nurturing school. We are very thankful for our new home. And we are slowly getting back up on our feet – one fun 'ninja' class at a time.

A Heartfelt Thanks from an Angel Mom: "First of all, thank you so much for supporting us! We’re sending huge appreciation to Angels of America’s Fallen! We’re so excited! We just wanted to show you how much we appreciate you all. My daughter keeps playing #tennis and started to add self-practices for next season! Here is a picture from her self practice! She thought she needed to practice serving. We’re very thankful to have great support from Angels of America’s Fallen so that she could keep playing tennis!" Alise's Fallen Hero is her father, Navy Chief Petty Officer Demond W.

Army Captain Shawn English died in Iraq on Dec 3, 2006. Angel's of America's Fallen helps to honor his sacrifice and continue his legacy by supporting his son in Austin's chosen sport of football. "Austin wears Captain America socks and shoes while playing football to honor his father. Sports have made a poignant difference in the way the boys have coped with their grief. I hope sharing these will help you spread that message, especially to potential donors. With a grateful heart, Tricia English."

Lisa Keys' son Ethan, is 15 years old. His cerebral palsy is so severe that he cannot speak and is wheelchair bound. Through your support, Angels of America's Fallen was able to provide him with an adaptive wheelchair suitable even for the trails here in Colorado. We cover the cost of run registrations for Ethan and his mom, where he can enjoy the feeling of the wind on his face and the natural environment we treasure here in Colorado.

Background Statement

Angels of America's Fallen (AOAF) was founded in 2013 to fill a crucial gap in the support provided to the children of America's fallen military, firefighters, police, and EMS technicians. More than 16,000 children have lost their military or first responder parent since 2001, and their average age at the time of loss is just seven years old. A gap existed in long-term support while these children face their most crucial developmental years without the guidance of their fallen parent. Founder Joe Lewis, a military veteran, started AOAF on the premise of fulfilling the support he would want for his family if he did not come home. When a parent dies, the child loses one of their biggest mentors, and AOAF was founded to help ensure that the children of America's fallen military and first responders have the support they need to author their own stories of success through participation in extra-curricular interests about which they are passionate.

AOAF's support differs greatly from other programs supporting veterans and their families. The vast majority of programs that exist are for families with living, active duty or veteran service members. In our families, the veteran or first responder is deceased, and we are supporting their children who became at risk youth as a result of the traumatic loss of their parent. Other programs limit support to children whose parent passed in combat or were in special forces units. Our support extends not only to the children of combat fatalities, but also to those who lose their parent to training accidents, illness, and suicide. We are unique among organizations serving veterans and first responders in this long-term investment in the lives of the children of our country's fallen heroes. Our commitment to pay for the interests and healthy growth and development of children of our fallen through extracurricular pursuits extends through the child's 18th year. We are also unique in our support of fallen police, firefighter, and EMS technicians. Their day in and out commitment makes our communities safe and strong and is the foundation upon which our country is built. Many of them are also veterans, National Guardsmen, or Reservists. Support for the children of their fallen often falls through the cracks. AOAF works to remedy this wrong and provide these children with the help they deserve.
