Mission

The Alamosa Live Music Association is a dynamic, non-profit community arts organization enriching the lives of artists, audiences, and the community; and fostering economic development and tourism by providing opportunities for cultural expression through music.

Background Statement

Established in 1999, the Alamosa Live Music Association (ALMA) exists to promote all aspects of live music performance in the San Luis Valley including celebration of local culture and economic development for musicians and local businesses. Since 2001, ALMA has organized a free summer concert series called Sundays at Six. These family-friendly concerts are held outdoors at a local park and feature musicians from a variety of genres, including folk, bluegrass, jazz, blues, celtic, mariachi, and rock. Performers are a mix of local and regional bands. Typical attendance at these concerts ranges from 250-350 people, demonstrating the appeal of live music performances in the San Luis Valley.

Throughout the fall, winter, and spring, ALMA typically hosts three to five concert events, including a concert designed to showcase local/regional musicians and to recruit new members in February, a Battle of the Bands featuring five bands competing for a slot in the Sundays at Six summer series, and a Holiday Sing-Along in December. Each of these concerts is attended by 75-150 people.

The Sundays at Six concert series has been ALMA's biggest accomplishment, and in recent years, additional community programming has been built around it. During the concerts, the local library has a mobile book nook for children, and the university has incorporated outdoor programming such as paddle boarding on the river. The City now uses the stage for community programs including Zumba or Yoga prior to the concert. As a result, Sundays at Six is a catalyst for community building, family bonding, and healthy outdoor activities for all ages. All of this is free and open to the public.
