$12,000 Goal

Water Tower & a Greenhouse for women in Kokelen & Sanankoroba

We're in the final phase of a 12-year mission to make 40 villages in Mali self-sustaining. With only 5% left, we're focusing on the communities of Sanankoroba and Kokelen, each home to several smaller villages. Our goal: build one water tower and one greenhouse in each town to provide year-round food, clean water, and economic stability-empowering women farmers and strengthening entirecommunities.

Challenge

In Kokelen & Sanankoroba , Mali, women farmers and their families still lack year-round access to clean water and food. Despite a 12-year grassroots effort to build self-sustaining villages, this community remains vulnerable due to the absence of key infrastructure. Without water towers and greenhouses, families face food insecurity, economic instability, and limited opportunities-especially women, who are the backbone of farming in Mali.

Solution

This project will build a water tower and a greenhouse in both Kokelen and Sanankoroba. These final steps will enable year-round food production and reliable clean water, empowering women farmers to feed their families, earn income, and lead their communities. It's the last 5% to complete a 12-year mission to make these towns and their surrounding villages fully self-sustaining.

Long-Term Impact

By completing the final 5%-building a water tower and greenhouse in Kokelen & Sanankoroba this project will secure clean water and food production for generations. It will empower women with tools to lead, earn, and feed their communities year-round, breaking cycles of poverty and dependence. This model of self-sustainability will continue to grow, inspiring long-term resilience across Mali.

Giving Activity

Mission

AGILE International's mission is to empower rural women in Mali and West Africa so they can restore food security and the cultural wisdom that underlies traditional sustainable agriculture.

Background Statement

Our Founder, Fatou Doumbia, born and raised in Mali, emigrated to the USA in the early 1990s. When Fatou returned to her home 17 years later, she found a different Mali. Food was more scarce, and people were living off a single meal, rather than three meals a day. Times were more desperate. They lacked food, water, adequate health care and complete education for their children. Kids were dropping out of school, girls were being pushed out of school and forced into early marriages or forced to work to earn money to complement family income. Often, girls became prostitutes and the cycle of poverty continued.

These conditions still prevail today. That's why AGILE International was founded.
