Mission Statement

AeroAngel provides free air transportation to people needing to travel for medical care or other compelling reasons. We use volunteer professional pilots to fly business aircraft to make flights within Colorado and throughout the country. Flights are provided at no charge to ambulatory passengers, on short notice, in most weather conditions, and for multiple passengers. AeroAngel is unique in its mission to serve those in need of air travel who cannot travel by commercial airline or by any other means due to their health challenges.

Organization History

AeroAngel was formed by Mark Pestal, a Denver attorney and commercial pilot, who has a passion for aviation and desire to use his flying skills to help others. As a volunteer air charity pilot, he saw the need to utilize a more capable, all-weather aircraft to fly missions in the Colorado area. Many scheduled missions have gone uncompleted or been delayed due to marginal weather or the lack of a suitable aircraft. Having declined a number of missions himself, he could appreciate the fact that most private pilots were not comfortable flying a single-engine airplane in weather or over the mountains in instrument conditions. Moreover, AeroAngel provides an opportunity for experienced pilots, who do not own an aircraft, to fly in service of others.

Mark's aviation background also includes work on aviation cases as well as writing safety-related articles for aviation publications. His experience in the air charity arena includes past service on the board of directors of an air charity, as well as a volunteer pilot for a number of organizations, including the Civil Air Patrol.

We are forever grateful to AeroAngel for getting our daughter to Cleveland. She became very ill with in hours of landing and was admitted to Cleveland Clinic immediately. She's in good hands because of this organization. God bless them. Stacey C.

Without AeroAngel, specifically Mark and Mark, we could not have brought our son home. Their compassion, their hearts, and ability to give all to help another is something I will never forget and look up to. Thank you. Bryan and Kim G.
