9Health Fair advances health awareness, providing people with the tools they need to take responsibility for their own health.
In 1980, the first 9Health Fair was born (with support from hundreds of medical and non-medical volunteers, 9NEWS, the Lions Clubs of Colorado, and the Colorado National Guard). The fair was such an immediate success, drawing 40,000 participants its first year, that, to this day, all three original sponsors remain steadfast in their commitment to continually expand and improve 9Health offerings.
In 1987, 9Health became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of promoting health awareness and encouraging individuals to assume responsibility for their own health.
As the largest volunteer-driven, non-profit health and education program in the nation, 9Health has provided Coloradans the opportunity to 'own their health' (Inspire, Educate, Screen & Prevent) for the past 38 years. 9Health matches 10,000 volunteers, 120+ sites, and 50,000 attendees annually with dozens of vital health screenings that help prevent and identify attendees' chronic disease issues. 9Health is endorsed by Colorado Medical Society, Colorado Nurses Association, the Colorado Hospital Association.
"Just a note to say thank you for offering the low-cost blood work at your fairs. But more than anything, I want to thank you for being so concerned about my well-being and the results of my blood-work. One of your volunteer nurses at 9Health was so persistent in calling me until she could finally reach me to let me know my sodium levels were seriously low. The fact that 9Health found this in my blood work and was urgently trying to reach me is a testament to how important the blood chemistry screening is!"
"My potassium level was off the charts and a volunteer nurse contacted me. She told me the high level was symptom-less but that I could have a heart attack and offered to contact a doctor on my behalf. She asked if I was doing something that was raising my potassium level. I was. I immediately stopped taking potassium and the problem was corrected. I owe my life to your health fair."
"A year and a half ago I went to the Fair as I had done many times in the past and received a huge "blow" from the blood report only to find that I was seriously diabetic with a blood sugar level that could become fatal. After showing the report to my doctor he immediately prescribed a life style change. I have since lost 80 lbs and blood sugar levels today are normal - no signs of diabetic concerns. There is no doubt that going to the 9Health Fair probably saved my life and helped me to make a serious change in my life style."
"I had my Thyroid removed and need to monitor my levels every six months. Even when I was between jobs and did not have good health insurance, I could get my Thyroid levels tested for $35. It cost me $162 when I went through my doctor's office because I had a high deductible. Thank you for offering affordable screenings."
