Youth/Adolescents only (14 - 19 years)

Description

2xtreme Dream is a reward-based therapeutic program that allows at-risk teen boys the opportunity to turn their lives around. Fortitude, defined as the mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger or temptation courageously, perfectly embodies the 9 month journey these boys have the privilege to embark on being a Dream Team member.

While the boys continue with their regular therapy sessions, they are simultaneously required to comply with the 7 facets that comprise the Dream; help design their own therapy treatment plan, maintain good grades, maintain a part-time job, participate in a community service program, stay clean from drugs and alcohol, have no negative police contact, and resolve conflicts at home.

The program culminates with a mountaineering expedition somewhere in the world, with past Dreams climbing in Africa, Peru, Russia and Bolivia. One of the most rewarding aspects as told from past Dream alumni is the Community Service project they participate in local to the region of where they climb. The boys learn that the world is so much bigger than they are, and instills a love of giving back.

The 2018 Dream Team Peru has been chosen and trainings have begun! The team is strong, driven and full of camaraderie and support of one another.

Funding and sponsorships are a necessity to make the Dream happen. We are grateful to our current donors, however, we look forward to building new partnerships to realize the Dream! Donors investing in the 2xtreme Dream build tangible connections to the boys through funding investments, mentoring opportunities, and the follow-up relationships formed. We invite you to partner with 2xtreme and the Dream!

Evidence of Program's Success

This quote is from a 2xtreme Dream alumni, which is consistent with past program participants:

"Through my involvement on the 2xtreme Dream-Peru, I discovered my leadership skills, how to take responsibility for situations I was avoiding, how to repair relationships, and how to take advantage of opportunities as they presented themselves. I learned how to get from point 'A' to point 'B', and how to work a negative situation to my advantage. Stuff happens - things go wrong. You can either decide to let that impact you negatively or you can use it for personal growth and betterment for yourself and those around you.

Today, I am married and have a 16 month old daughter and another baby on the way. The last two years have had lots of changes - a job change, a major move, starting a family, buying our first home. It has been hectic, amazing, and rewarding. I am in a great place mentally and have been for a long time. I am thankful for those who have been stakeholders in my success, including being on the Dream."

Description

Parenting a son or daughter with mental health, substance abuse, addictions, and academic or family issues, along with rebellion can be a frustrating, life draining, and isolating experience.

We honor the courage it takes to step forward, out of the insanity, darkness and loneliness, toward personal growth, worthiness and healing. The only thing we ask is that you come with an open heart to experience yourself and others, and as you feel led, to share your own heart.

2xtreme's M2M Moms Group is a free community support group for mothers with sons or daughters experiencing these life challenges. The group provides support, acceptance, hope, and most importantly, love, with a continual goal of connecting people to people.

The group safely shares experiences, explores motivations, and focuses on personal decisions and directions for healing themselves and their families.

Evidence of Program's Success

Many moms struggle with enacting tough love strategies with their children. With the support of M2M, many moms have gained the courage and grit to move forward with difficult decisions and directives. This in turn encourages a more loving and connected parent/child relationship, with the child learning and making choices that are positive. Other group participants can literally see the progress, happiness, hope and lightness in their fellow struggling moms, which encourages further strength... an amazing cycle of sharing strength.

Beneficiaries

Male Adults

Males
Young Adults (20-25 years)
Youth/Adolescents only (14 - 19 years)

Description

2xtreme Foundation offers training for mentors. Many of our mentors are graduates from our program who are willing to share their struggles and recovery with a younger boy who is struggling with either emotional or behavioral problems. Our mentors know how to make the same kind of connection that each of them has benefitted from - a connection that utilizes understanding, listening, and a lack of judgment. When he is seen and heard, a young man starts to look at himself differently. He stands a little taller and starts looking others in the eye because he knows he is valued and respected. He starts to think about his future and his choices, and makes plans and decisions that honor who he really is.

Evidence of Program's Success

Most of the 2xtreme mentor/mentee relationships continue on some level beyond the completion of the program. This includes regular communication and support via phone or text, invitations and inclusion in each other's life events, and the growth of a true friendship.

Description

Four times a year, 2xtreme gathers many of our caring volunteers and blesses a family in need of support due to loss, trauma or other tragic circumstances. We show up, we serve their needs with compassionate hearts, a smile, while we model to our youth in crisis the joy of giving to others while in the midst of their own storm. The teens and young men who volunteer come away with comments such as "that was the best day I've ever had!" "wow, they are really hurting, it felt so good to help someone in need". We as a nonprofit are grateful to give back so fully.

Project Santa is in it's 16th year. Each year, a few families who are hurting emotionally, financially or struggling, are chosen to be gifted by our 2xtreme Santa. The entire team at 2xtreme, along with generous donors are proud to love them through providing a few practical needs including a few surprises. Gift cards, dinners, movies, ski lift tickets, a special respite in the mountains are among the many gifts we are able to bestow on these families.
