Summary

Hello 14erers!

It's that time again! This summer I will attempt to raise $50,000 for the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI). In the past 3 years, my summer campaigns have raised a total of $150,000 and I'd love to keep it going because they rely on our individual donations. Each year the CFI builds and maintains sustainable trails to accommodate hiking use while minimizing damage to native alpine ecosystems. They also provide on-trail peak stewards to educate hikers about Leave No Trace (LNT) principles and sustainable recreational practices designed to lessen the impact on our fragile, high-alpine terrain.

This summer CFI will re-route much of the standard "trail" on Mt. Columbia (Hooray!) as well as most of Mt. Elbert's east ridge trail. These are large projects that will provide more-sustainable trails and lighter impact on the routes. Additionally, the following peaks will get some trail work: Mt. Harvard, Maroon Peak, Capitol Peak, Uncompahgre Peak, La Plata Peak, Mt. Massive, Mt. of the Holy Cross and Quandary Peak.

If you haven't already made a donation to the CFI this year, please consider making one through my campaign so we can reach my goal by Labor Day. If you see the CFI crews out on the trail, take a moment to thank them for the work on our 14er trails.

Thank you and safe travels,

Bill Middlebrook
