Kellie’s Trans Rights Readathon Fundraiser

Some people run marathons to raise money, but I am not a runner... My strengths are in reading and discussing books! So, as part of the Trans Rights Readathon, I am going to read as many books as I can that highlight trans characters and/or authors to raise money for the Transgender Center of the Rockies. The Readathon runs from March 17-31, culminating in Trans Day of Visibility on March 31st. 

It is a scary time in our country to be trans, so as an ally I want to show up for those who feel silenced. I am inviting friends to join me in reading some of these books and donating to this organization or others that support trans rights. 

The Trans Rights Readathon created 9 specific prompts for this year’s event. Here is a list of each prompt and the book I picked to go with it:

*1. Transmasc and Trans Man Representation - Most Ardently: A Pride and Prejudice Remix by Gabe Cole Novoa 

2. Transfemme and Trans Woman Rep - Falling Back in Love with Being Human: Letters to Lost Souls by Kai Cheng Thom

*3. Nonbinary, Agender, Genderqueer, and Other Gender Expansive Rep - Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz

*4. Intersectional Trans+ Rep Outside Your Own Experience - Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert by Bob the Drag Queen

*5. 2Spirit, Indigiqueer and Indigenous Gender Expansive Rep - Love After the End: An Anthology of Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer Speculative Fiction edited by Joshua Whitehead

6. A Book Featuring Trans Joy, Love, and/or Resistance - Ander & Santi Were Here by Jonny Garza Villa

7. A Book About Trans Youth and/or Imagining Trans Futures - Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy by Grace Ellis, ND Stevenson, Shannon Watters with Gus A. Allen (Illustrator)

8. A Book by or Featuring Trans Elders, or a Trans History Book - Marsha: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. Johnson by Tourmaline

9. A Book Recommended by a Friend/Bookseller/Librarian - TBD! I am looking for suggestions and welcome your recommendation!

The ones with stars next to them are my primary goal (4/9), but if I get enough donations I will aim for the stretch goal to finish all 9 books!

There is no pressure to donate and I encourage you to read any of these books regardless! Even reading and sharing about queer books is a worthwhile endeavor. Thanks for joining me in this cause!

Important Note: This fundraiser pages shows the primary recipient as Mile High Behavioral Healthcare because TCR is under that larger organization. When submitting your donation please make sure to designate the funds to go to TCR specifically.
