We've received an update from the legislative sponsors. We now know that we'll need to raise approximately $31,786 to fund the equal justice license plate. Thanks to everyone who has already donated to make the license plate a reality!
Thanks to strong community support, the Equal Justice License Plate effort has officially cleared a major milestone. The Colorado Department of Revenue has verified more than 3,000 petition signatures, confirming broad statewide support for expanding access to civil legal aid.
The next step in the process is passing a bill to authorize the license plate. Given the State of Colorado’s fiscal situation, the bill will only be able to pass the General Assembly if there is no fiscal impact. That’s where we need your help.
We’re asking our donors to crowdfund these costs. We estimate that we need $25,000 to cover the state’s costs in standing up the specialty plate. If costs come in below our estimate, any excess funds will be used to support Colorado Legal Services. After the initial startup costs, the plate will generate revenue for legal services for years to come.
