On March 8, 2021, winds reaching 58 miles per hour ravaged our museum grounds and sadly demolished two of our iconic tipis. We lost our largest and most recognizable hand-painted tipi that greets our visitors and travelers as they enter the museum grounds, as well as a beautiful white canvas tipi on the grounds south of the museum.
The damage to both the timber frames as well as the canvas coverings has left both tipis beyond repair. The tipis on our museum grounds are well-loved symbols by all who visit the Ute Indian Museum, as they represent home, protection, sacredness, and most importantly, community.
A donation drive has started! We would like to see our tips restored and once again stand tall on our grounds.
The tipis are part of an ongoing partnership with Colorado Yurt Company/Earthworks Tipis. The company is generously helping to replace these iconic tipis by matching your donations dollar for dollar! www.coloradoyurt.com
Donations of $50 or more to the Ute Indian Museum are eligible to receive 25% of the donation amount as a Colorado Enterprise Zone Tax Credit.
