Jefferson County Sustainability Commission Fund

Make an historic impact on the health of our community and environment in Jeffco.

This Fund, managed by Jefferson County and volunteers who form the Jefferson County Sustainability Commission, seeks to collect financial contributions from committed community members, organizations and businesses wanting to take immediate action against climate change.

In 2021, we raised $50,000 to help fund the development of Jefferson County's first Climate Action Plan (CAP). Thank you for your support!

In 2022, the CAP was developed over a 12-month process and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners, featuring goals and strategies to reduce GHG emissions and bolster our community's resilience, all while centering equity along the way.

In 2023, we hit the ground running with implementation of the CAP's many solutions.

As we move forward, the Sustainability Commission will use your financial contribution on projects targeted at advancing and implementing Jefferson County’s Climate Action Plan and other sustainability priorities.

The following projects are examples of how your generosity fuels our work.

Project Highlight: Sustainability in Jeffco Schools with Mountain Mamas

We are partnering with Mountain Mamas to introduce a suite of sustainability programming into the Jefferson County School District, including composting, waste reduction, renewable energy, and clean transportation. This initiative directly aligns with several solutions in the CAP, as well as educating our young ones about how they can be a part of the solution. Mountain Mamas is a non-profit committed to protecting our air, water, climate and public lands for future generations.

Project Highlight: Regional organics compost facility/transfer station

We are exploring the feasibility of placing an organics compost facility or transfer station that might serve a significant portion of county residents and businesses. The implementation of this infrastructure would help improve access to composting, reduce waste to landfill, and reduce transport of waste to other facilities outside of the county.

Project Highlight: Sustainable funding for climate action

The county has set aggressive climate targets and continues to experience effects of drought and wildfire. Meeting these targets and better mitigating risks to JeffCo residents requires resources beyond the county’s existing budget. The commission is exploring the feasibility of securing additional sustainable funding to boost the county’s implementation of climate action and resiliency projects.
