Help Set Up CO Kids for a Lifetime of Success!

Hello friends, 

You've probably heard me say this before, but I truly believe that equity in education has the power to brighten our world- leveling the playing field between haves and have nots and giving all kids an equal chance at lifelong success. But that doesn't start on the first day of kindergarten, or even the first day of preschool... building better brains needs to begin at birth, since 80% of a child's brain is developed by age 3. 🤯 

When babies, infants and toddlers spend time cuddled up, reading aloud regularly with a parent or loved one, their language skills and brain development soar, they feel loved and supported, they build confidence, and they are able to get a glimpse at a world different than their own. This creates a strong foundation for learning before ever entering kindergarten, fosters imagination and the ability to dream big, and also builds resilience against toxic stress that may occur later in life. 

Reach Out and Read Colorado is an early literacy nonprofit that partners with pediatricians to ensure reading aloud is a critical element of overall healthy living for families from day one. We do so by giving a free age-appropriate bilingual book in a family's native language at each regular check-up between birth and age 5.

My brothers and I were lucky enough to be surrounded by books from a young age, read to at bedtime, and years later fighting over copies of Harry Potter on road trips. But not all kids are that fortunate.
