Today is National Nonprofit Day, a day to celebrate what’s possible when a community comes together around a shared mission.
This year, Cat Care Society (CCS) is celebrating 45 years of providing compassionate care for shelter cats — and we’re inviting our community to help us continue that work by donating this National Nonprofit Day!
Founded in 1981, Cat Care Society is a private, nonprofit cat shelter dedicated to improving the quality of life for cats in need. For 45 years, our work has centered around a simple belief: every cat deserves a chance to thrive.
That belief guides everything we do and is reflected in our core values:
- Welcoming: Provide compassionate care for cats and people, regardless of age, ability, identity, or medical needs.
- Committed: Deliver high-quality, specialized medical and behavioral care for cats who need a little extra help.
- Unique: Create a free-roaming shelter with enrichment and individualized care.
- Connected: Build partnerships statewide rescue and shelter organizations, alongside a community of adopters, volunteers, fosters, and staff.
- Inclusive: Open adoption opportunities for all cats and a welcoming community for all people.
And our impact extends beyond our shelter. In just the last year, CCS:
- Welcomed 8,000+ visitors to our shelter and community programs
- Facilitated 1,280+ adoptions, connecting homeless cats with loving homes
- Relaunched our volunteer program, welcoming 100+ new volunteers
- Supported 64 cats and their families through our temporary care program, helping prevent surrender
- Partnered with 30+ rescue and shelter organizations across Colorado, supporting organizations with limited resources
- Diagnosed and treated 200+ unique medical conditions for cats who may not have had a second chance elsewhere
We believe caring for cats is a community effort. Our staff and volunteers care for cats every day, adopters open their homes, community partners share resources and expertise, and supporters help provide the financial foundation that allows this work to continue.
As a nonprofit shelter, CCS receives no government funding and has no municipal contracts. We are 100% community-funded. Every contribution, volunteer hour, adoption, partnership, and act of support helps sustain a community where cats can receive the care they need and people can find meaningful connections with them.
After 45 years, our core value remains the same: every cat deserves a chance to thrive. We’re proud to continue building a community where that can happen — for cats in our shelter, cats in homes, and cats throughout Colorado.
This National Nonprofit Day, please consider making a contribution to CCS and being part of the community that keeps this work going.
Together, we can continue caring for homeless cats, creating adoption opportunities, supporting families, educating our community, and building connections that make a difference — for the next 45 years and beyond.
On behalf of the cats, thank you for being part of our community.
