This Christmas card from a family served at the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center after their child was molested says a lot:
"For everyone at the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center! Thank you so much for being there at an unfortunate time in our lives. Thank you for making us comfortable at an uncomfortable time. Thank you for being understanding and compassionate in such a hard job to deal with. Thank you so much for giving us hope that we will be okay. Thank you for all you have done for us and given us."

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND: The Pueblo Child Advocacy Center (PCAC) was among pioneering groups pursuing a new concept for investigating sexual abuse of children and supporting traumatized children. The idea was to provide a homelike, comforting setting designed for children and to bring the investigators to the family in that setting. In 1986, PCAC was the first child advocacy center in Colorado and sixth in the nation.
After serving thousands of children in Pueblo, PCAC continues to evolve as our profession discovers more and better ways to serve children. Over the last couple of decades, huge advances have been made in developing research-based protocols for interviewing children, for diagnosing physical symptoms of abuse, and for supporting children in their recovery from abuse. Our challenge as an advocacy center is to keep pace with these advances.
Dramatic national research results are demonstrating the tremendous impact of child advocacy centers, along with sex offender registries and other efforts, in protecting children. Several different studies are now showing that the rates of reported sexual abuse of children have declined close to 50% over the past two decades. Programs like ours are clearly making a difference, and we need to keep up this work to protect children.
