Located on the original 8.65 acre homestead site of Chief Ouray and his wife Chipeta, Ute Indian Museum allows visitors to experience the history, culture and daily life of the early inhabitants of the Uncompahgre Valley.

Your donations to Ute Indian Museum will help to improve our public gardens with projects such as renovation of the Peace Pole and interpretive signage in the Chief Ouray Memorial Garden.

The Peace Pole at the Ute Indian Museum was installed in 2007 and is one of over 200,000 peace poles in over 197 countries. The original pole, with "May Peace Prevail on Earth" written on the sides in several different languages including Ute, needs to be painted and restored. Many people visit the gardens each year, and an interpretive panel sharing facts about peace poles would bring the entire project to its fullest.

The visitor information and interpretation of the Chief Ouray Memorial Garden needs the same attention as the interior exhibits of the Ute Indian Museum. Interpretive signage would draw visitors to the gardens and would explain the significance of the memorials to Chief Ouray and Chipeta on the museum grounds.

Ute Indian Museum is a community-centered site offering year-round educational programming for youth, adults, and school and community groups.

Donation of $250 or more to Ute Indian Museum are eligible to receive 25% of the donation amount as a Colorado Enterprise Zone Tax Credit.
