Testimonials

Mullen High School provides a challenging curriculum that presents students with a variety of courses to prepare them for both college and life. During the 2015-2016 school year, Mullen served 796 young men and women with a Catholic, Lasallian education. We offer 15 Advanced Placement Courses and 31 Honors Courses to best prepare students for higher education. The entire class of 2016 graduated with 98% of the class attending four-year institutions. Additionally, over the past three years our students have been accepted to 21 out of the 25 top universities as ranked by the U.S. News & World Report.

Complementing our curriculum, Mullen's comprehensive co-curricular and athletic programs provide students with opportunities for growth and learning outside of the classroom. Mullen has nearly 30 student clubs, including Speech and Debate, World Affairs and Lasallian Youth. In addition, Mullen offers a renowned Athletic Program with 24 sports teams, with an equal number of men's and women's teams, that have won 52 state championships since 2000. Over 90% of our student body participates in at least one of our sports where student-athletes learn the values of good sportsmanship, self-discipline and leadership.

Most importantly, Mullen embraces our Lasallian heritage and encourages spiritual development through our Community Life Programs. Mullen offers grade-level retreats for all faith traditions throughout the year. Students also have opportunities to put their faith into action and further the cause of social justice by participating in local service projects and national and global immersion trips. During the 2015-2016 school year, students participated in immersion trips to the La Puente Home in the San Luis Valley, the De La Salle Blackfeet School in Browning, Montana and Cuscu, Peru for two week mission trip, where 26 students worked with Peruvian students teaching English and donated basic school and medical supplies.

Background Statement

For 86 years Mullen High School has provided a rigorous curriculum within a community of faith to young people throughout Denver. Mullen was founded in 1931 as the J.K. Mullen Home for Boys by a generous Catholic philanthropist, John Kernan Mullen. Operated by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Mullen began as an orphanage to care for needy upper-elementary and high school boys. After 1950 the school expanded to provide orphans, boarding students and day students with a quality Lasallian education. In 1966, the orphanage closed and the school continued as J.K. Mullen High School, admitting only young men until 1989 when the school became coeducational. Mullen has since remained a leading Catholic high school guided by the Five Core Principles of Lasallian Education: 1) Faith in the Presence of God; 2) Respect for All Persons; 3) Concern for the Poor and Social Justice; 4) Inclusive Community and 5) Quality Education.
