Mission
Our mission is to advocate for adults and children with intellectual/developmental disabilities so that they can live, learn, work and play in environments that are inclusive, interdependent and encourage individual and family empowerment.
Today the mission is cultivated by the dedicated staff and Board of Directors. They work passionately to help people with IDD achieve their full potential and lead productive, safe and informed lives in their communities.
Background Statement
The Arc of Adams County is a local chapter of The Arc of the United States. The Arc is a nationwide voluntary organization whose members are devoted to improving the lives of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It was first organized in 1950 by friends and parents of persons with developmental disabilities.
The Arc of Adams County is a grassroots agency founded in 1962 by parents of children with developmental and /or intellectual disabilities (IDD). The goal of the organization was to provide advocacy, trainings, outreach and support to children and adults with IDD and their family members.
The Board of Directors of the Arc of Adams is made up of committed volunteers from the community. They encourage any opportunities that might increase the Arcs ability to continue and expand the support they offer to help individuals with I/DD.
Our independent funding stream allows us to focus on the individuals and families we support with no competing interest.
We continue to be united by a determination to assure every child and adult has the opportunities to develop to their fullest potential and to enjoy the full range of human and civil rights.
