Fort Garland Museum & Cultural Center is a 1850s-era military fort once commanded by legendary frontiersman Kit Carson.

Your donations to Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center will help us support and increase our children's education programs. Donations for Colorado Gives Day will be used to fund education programs like Hands-On History.

Hands-On History provides working families with full-day children's programing, K-8, when school is not in session. With the adoption of the 4-day school week by many Colorado school districts, Hands-On History provides a reliable, safe, educational, and fun program that is expanding to meet the needs of families in the San Luis Valley. Your donations provide more opportunities for students with financial needs to access this programming.

Visitors can tour original adobe buildings on the grounds and view excellent exhibits on how the fort was saved and preserved. Highlights include infantry and cavalry barracks exhibits, an exhibit on the Buffalo Soldiers and historic dioramas of early life in the San Luis Valley.

Fort Garland Museum & Cultural Center is a community-centered historic site offering year-round educational programming for youth, adults, and school and community groups.
